How scores are calculated
Every leader gets a score out of 100. It is built from work done in their area, not from popularity. The same rules apply to every leader and every party.
The three parts
Issues fixed (up to 40 points)
Reports confirmed fixed by residents, divided by all reports in the leader's area over the last 12 months (or since their term began, if shorter).
Fixing speed (up to 20 points)
The median number of days from a report to its confirmed fix. 0 days gives 20 points, 30 days or more gives 0, and anything in between falls on a straight line.
Resident rating (up to 40 points)
Verified residents rate three things from 1 to 5: responsiveness, work done and accessibility. The average of the three is scaled so that 1 gives 0 points and 5 gives 40.
Each part is rounded to a whole number, and the score is the sum of the three rounded parts, so the breakdown always adds up.
A worked example
120 reports, 66 confirmed fixed (55%), median 18 days, average rating 3.4. Issues fixed: 22. Speed: 8. Rating: 24. Score: 54 out of 100.
When no score is shown
A score appears only when the area has at least 20 reports and 20 ratings from verified residents. Until then the page says "Not enough data yet" and shows how far along it is.
Rules that keep it fair
- Only fixes confirmed by residents of that ward count. If a resident disputes a fix, the report is reopened and the fixed share goes down again.
- Councillors are compared only with councillors, MLAs with MLAs and MPs with MPs.
- Our team may exclude a report that is outside a leader's remit, such as a state department project. Every exclusion is shown publicly on that leader's page, with the reason.
- Ratings come only from verified residents of the leader's area, once per leader per term. Individual ratings are private. Only averages are shown.
- We show numbers and their breakdown. We do not label anyone as good or bad.
Updates and changes
Scores are recalculated every hour. The weights above are proposals for the pilot and may be adjusted. Any change will be published on this page.
